About me/mission statement

Hello and welcome! The purpose of this blog is to share my DIY projects, decorating/crafts, sewing adventures, and general home-ownership tips.

Inspiration For Creating This Blog
Many friends and family members have expressed interest in my projects. "How did you do that?!"; "I could never do that project" are common things I hear. Honestly though, I don't think that any of the projects I've done are exceptionally difficult or set me apart as somehow better equipped for these projects than others. However, those comments are what inspired me to create this blog!

Our First and Current Houses' conditions
When we bought our first home in 2008, I pushed hard for it. My husband was not at all on-board with buying the house we did because of how much work it needed; he wanted one that was all ready to go (but much more expensive). The one I wanted was trashed on the inside and very much in need of some intensive TLC, but much easier on the wallet. That's where this all started, really. I saw potential in that house. I always had loved watching those renovation/makeover/"flipping" shows, so I think my soft spot for that house came from those. I just knew I could do the projects needed to make that sad house a home. It was calling my name!

We bought it and I jumped right in. It took a lot of work doing projects here and there, but it was SO worth it in the end to say that I did it! That house's interior went from trashed to probably the best interior in the neighborhood. And slowly became our very first home together, and oh what a lovely home it became! I will always miss it.

But ah, military life. In late summer of 2011, because of a military move, we bought another home up here in the cold and beautiful north. This time I was excited to have an OLD house to work with (we are talking probably 1860's), a long-time dream of mine. However, with old houses comes lots and lots of repairs and updates!

Save Money By "Doing-It-Yourself"!
A big reason I like to do projects on my own is the cost savings. I can't even begin to compute how much money we've saved by going DIY. And, we made a considerable profit when we sold our fist home.

I'm Not Big Or Strong! If I Can Do It, Most Of You Can, Too!
A note about me. I'm a small-built woman; a touch over 5  feet tall and under 100 lbs. I have problems with my joints (genetic/autoimmune arthritis), with a history of surgeries. My point is to illustrate that, even with what some would consider physical limitations, I am still enthusiastically able to complete these projects, some of which require considerable elbow grease. I'm not big or strong, but I am woman and hear me roar! ;o)

XXS: Sewing Projects for a Shortie
I'm much more petite than the average woman, and have difficulty finding clothing that fits me. Because of this I taught myself to sew a few years ago, at first just to hem and take in clothes. Over time I've found sewing to be a wonderful creative outlet and have created new things and refashioned clothing. It is so much fun! Some tutorials will be on sewing.

I hope you enjoy my tutorials! Please ask if you have any questions.
